Gatherings of invocations and learning about the spiritual path

Sufi invocations  are an integral aspect of the spiritual development and character formation of an individual. Through the act of invoking, the mind focuses continuously on the Divine presence, much like how meditation works to block out distractions from the mind. It also has an instant calming feeling over the mind and body. We provide short gatherings tailored to the needs of young people, giving them a foundation into Sufi invocations. This is accompanied by study and discussions of various aspects of the spiritual path relevant to the lives of young people.

We hold separate weekly gatherings for boys and girls. The groups are split according to age.

Friday gatherings

The invocation for boys and girls is the same but varies for each age group. The group of 5-to-11-year-olds attend a 35-minute session which consists of loud and collective invocation. We understand that they may not engage in the session entirely, or at all. Our intention is to help such children gain the spiritual blessing and goodness of being within the presence of the meadows of paradise. This session is followed by a brief talk on the basics of Islam.

The group of 12 years and over engage in a session that includes 5 minutes of silent individual invocation, 35 minutes of collective loud invocation, followed by a brief talk regarding the 40 Hadith of Imam An-Nawawi. To conclude, the boys and girls congregate separately to sing poetry in praise of God and His Beloved Messenger (Peace Be Upon Him). Food is then served to complete the evening.

Saturday gatherings

This gathering is more suited to beginners and is used as a steppingstone to attend the Friday gathering. Here, we provide a small invocation gathering of 15 minutes, a short talk on the As-Shifa of Qadi Iyad, and poetry singing in praise of God and His Beloved Messenger (Peace Be Upon Him). There is also an opportunity to memorise some chapters from the Qur’an and to participate in recreational activities.

Health & Well Being

We nurture the minds of young people at the Zawiya through the invocation gatherings and programmes tailored to them. With regular attendance of the gatherings and keeping company with one another, young people are supported with their spiritual and personal development. The invocation of God gives us the tools for everyday life.
